    The Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) is a prestigious military decoration awarded by the United States Army. It is given to infantrymen and Special Forces soldiers who have actively engaged in ground combat while serving in an infantry or Special Forces unit.

     

    The badge was established in 1943 during World War II to recognize the unique challenges and dangers faced by infantry soldiers.  The CIB features an infantry rifle on a blue background with laurel leaves, symbolizing achievement and bravery. It is awarded to soldiers in the rank of colonel or below who have demonstrated exceptional bravery and heroism in combat operations.
